Gearphoria Volume 7 Number 3

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR SO LONG 2018, hello 2019! I have to tell you, I’m not too sad to see the year that was twenty-eighteen in my rearview mirror. Challenges abound over the past 12 months with every- thing from unpredictable logistical challenges, family health, technol- ogy breakdowns... you name it! I, for one, am hopeful that this year holds a bit less stress and a bit more stabil- ity. But who knows, right? What I do know is that we have a packed issue this time around with stellar artist chats, a very cool shop visit and gear reviews aplenty. For the shop tour, we journeyed to New Jersey to check in on Andy Fuchs and Fuchs Audio Technology. Andy is an electronics veteran and his company is entering its 20th year of business. We talked a bit about how he got to this point and some things that remain on the horizon for the outfit. Our main artist Q&A is with Ken Andrews of Failure. Since emerging back onto the scene with its excel- lent album The Heart Is A Monster in 2015, the band returns with In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind -- a 16-track sonic assault that picks up where the last record left off. An- drews talks with our Alison Richter about the making of the new album and some of the gear he used to cre- ate the effort’s endless aural textures. Tom Darin Liskey was fortunate to grab a few minutes with guitarist Rufus Miller, son of Dominic Miller, who both play in Sting’s band. Rufus speaks about playing with his dad as well as with the ex-Police legend. Our List -eria! this issue will let you in on our top guitar-centric albums of 2018, while the gear review section is chalk-full of new offerings from the likes of Porter Guitars, Chase Bliss Audio, Amptweaker, Old Blood Noise Endeavors and more! Media reviews will clue you in on our thoughts about the recently re- leased Queen biopic Bohemian Rhap- sody as well as Re-Lic’D revisiting Alex Lifeson’s Victor project. All this plus news, opinions, col- umns and more! Happy reading... and Happy New Year! Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Gearphoria GEARPHORIA JAN/FEB 2019 7
