The National Association of Music Merchants winter trade show is a four day convention held every year in Anaheim, California. Thousands of music gear companies fill up every nook and cranny of the cav- ernous Anaheim Convention center. Hall after gigantic hall of brass, drums, DJ’s, guitars, theremins, pic- colos…you name it, it’s there. From generic to boutique, large and small, everyone is there, trying to be heard - for something like five floors. Think being stuck in a Guitar Cen- ter on a Saturday afternoon, times an almost infinite number of terrible tasteless shredders and 80’s-era funk bass players. Now toss in a marching band from hell… whatever you’re imagining is probably too tame. My brain is constantly trying to cram all this information into a structure that makes sense, until about day four, when my brain gives up and accepts that I hate it, and that all these people obviously hate mu- sic.
